That same year she was hired as an intern for An American Place restaurant for an entire year. Guarnaschelli began her journey into the culinary world through watching mom, who was in charge of editing cookbooks, test many recipes. Her career began under Larry Forgione before working in various Los Angeles, New York and France establishments. In the end, she was the chef-in-chief at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant in 2007's Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she was up against Cat Cora. After appearing as a Judge on the Program, in 2011 she participated in the show's fourth season in which she came third. In addition, she competed on The Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode but was eliminated from the competition. The fourth season of The Next Iron Chef, she started working as a sous chef to Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. She became host of The Food Network's The Cooking Loft With Alex Guarnaschelli in 2008, and she instructs a small class of students in the best ways to cook classic meals.
